Education

I am a Rising senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying bioengineering and mathematics. My current GPA is 3.18, (math GPA is 3.51). I was schooled both in Korea and the States, first coming to the States to finish my last two years of high school in PVPHS in Palos Verdes. This has developed a solid foundation for my mathematics skills and has allowed me to relate well to both Korean students studying abroad and to second generation Koreans. I'm fluent in Korean and English, and can speak Chinese at a fairly high level, so if you would prefer something other than English, please feel comfortable and let me know.

Experience

I've taught during high school, college and for an entire year during my time off college after my 2nd year. Although I am aware that high test scores do not directly translate to teaching skills, I've received a 5 on AP Calculus AB/BC, chemistry, biology, statistcs, Chinese etc, and I've gotten an 800 on SAT biology M, chemistry, mathematics IIC and physics. During my undergraduate years, I've discovered my passion for mathematics after taking a year off from school upon completing my second year. Since then I've focused on studying abstract algebra, analysis and even had the opportunity to study some finance related mathematics during which I wrote a paper on Artificial intelligence and its impact on algorithmic trading. All of these can sound impressive, but my real interest in teaching stems more from a dissatisfaction of mathematical education in the country. I feel like (I know!) most students in the United States create a mental block against math just from the minuscule portion they were exposed to throughout their lives. I have found great pleasure in exposing students to different facets of math while helping them navigate through the American system.

Hobbies

Athletics has always been an integral part of my life. I swam competitively during high school and rowed competitively for my first two years of college on the men's lightweight team but after getting injured, I now enjoy casual cycling with a club at school . During my spare time I love to play classical piano, read and just like many other students my age, spend time with my friends and having fun.
